Aside from the heinous legislation that Obama has endorsed in the past (see below), he has also made some unforgivable statements on the trail (one might say that he is at least consistent). In the clip below he notes that if his daughters became pregnant as teens he would not want them “punished with a baby” nor would he want them “punished with an STD.”
Obama’s candid and disarming demeanor doesn’t take the sting out of these words or their possible relationship to one another. By his own admission, not only is a baby “punishment” but she may be equated with the devastation of a “disease.” I have no doubt that Obama would state that neither of his daughters were perceived that way by he and his wife (they give every indication that they are loving parents). However, his social policy-conscience seems neatly compartmentalized on this matter. Both he and Speaker Pelosi make it clear that for the them there is a segment of humanity that is simply disposable.
The following Obama legislation corroborate what you just heard.
1. Defeated, on several occasions, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in Illinois (though he’s given an explanation for this, he has not, to my knowledge, explained his decision in light of the fact that the U.S. Senate voted 98-0 on an almost identical bill, now a U.S. Law.)
2. Is a co-sponsor of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would protect a woman’s right to abortion throughout her pregnancy even if a future Supreme Court repealed Roe v. Wade. (His recent comments about possibly supporting restrictions to late-term abortions are nonsensical in light of his co-sponsoring this bill, and standing before Planned Parenthood in July 2007 promising
3. Publicly criticized the Supreme Court’s April 2008 Five-Four decision to support the Partial Birth Abortion ban.
4. Has pledged to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (passed overwhelmingly by both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Clinton) as well as the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy (also instituted by President Clinton). Apparently, neither is sufficiently inclusive that “the first thing I’d do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”) [ht:AC]
Whats also stupid is that Obama’s mother was “punished” with Obama! From what I understand Obama’s mother became pregnant with him out of wedlock and as a teen.
