Four Rules for Good Writing

During my research time in June and July, I have found it profitable to dip into the wisdom of others’ reading and writing practices. Here is one of those gems.

1) Don’t obfuscate with abstruse vocabulary or unnecessary TLAs (three letter acronyms).

2) Don’t repeat yourself

3) Don’t use 20 words where two words would be understood, without any confusion, bafflement, befuddlement, bewilderment, distraction, muddle, mystification, perplexity, puzzlement, misapprehension, misconstruction, misinterpretation, misreading or misunderstanding.

4) Don’t repeat yourself.

  1. That reminds me of Blaise Pascal’s closing in a letter to a friend…. ” I apologize for the length of this letter — I did not have time to make it shorter.”
