Challies has posted on a section of Waltke’s Old Testament Theology (a must buy and read!!). Waltke contends that Satan patterns temptation off of the first run made at humanity. He provides the following points as the “shape” of temptation. Challies provides some helpful reflection.
1. Be a theologian (you’ve got to read it now)
2. Turn commands into questions
3. Emphasize prohibitions over freedom
4. Doubt God’s sincerity and motives
5. Doubt what God says is true
