Darrel Bock has written a provocative piece on the “emergent” movement and their attempt at Christology. He is, as always, balanced and reasonable in his approach. Bock rightly notices the arrogance of the emergents in general and the so called “revisionists” in particular.
Bock summarizes is comments as follows.
“Before we go challenging theological expression hammered out over centuries of reflection, let us take pause to see that sometimes theological propositions do matter and do well summarize key themes in Scripture. Understanding and appreciating why such expression is there and people cared to express this way might actually help us in our own desire to walk in the ways of God, even as fresh ways of thinking might also help us grow.”

Dr. Mooney,
I find it interesting that those in the emergent movement love to criticize “modern propositions” when many of them do the same exact thing. It seems that they too describe God with the theological proposition of mystery. I love the emergent movement, but every time I hear a rant against modern propositions I cringe now. Hope your summer is well!
