The latest Criswell Theological Review is devoted to the ever controversial issue of Christians and alcohol. I have yet to read any of it myself though I plan to devote some time to it after finals. The discussion seems to volley between moderate use versus teetotalism. Enjoy!

The bible nowhere forbids the use of alcoholic beverages, but it’s very clear on drunkeness. However I don’t drink, not because I’m a minister, but because of what is written in Proverbs.
Pro 31:3 Do not give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
Pro 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes to lust for strong drink;
Pro 31:5 lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Pro 31:6 Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to those who are of heavy hearts.
Pro 31:7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
As Kings and Priests in the Kingdom of God, I believe these verses could serve as a note of warning that drinking can cause one to possibly stray from the spiritual intent of our lives being lived in Christ. Although drinking, in and of itself, may not be a sin, it is unfit for those who would truly desire to serve God with all their hearts, minds, souls and strengths.
